Around the World in 365 Days – Wonders of the World

January 25th, 2010

When Phileas Fogg set off around the world on a wager for £20,000 he was given just 80 days in which to circumnavigate the planet – a feat deemed almost laughable upon the arrival of the magnificent Concorde, but nonetheless an enviable adventure. Anyone who has been travelling will concede that the world is a spectacular place; but for those home-birds amongst us, look no further than the wonders of the world personalised calendars.

Europe

Home to some of the UK’s most beautiful stately homes, public gardens and, erm…Douglas Hurd and Billie Piper, Wiltshire has every right to fight for a place on the list of top places to visit before you die. For those in the know, Wiltshire also happens to be the home of that unusual and mystical monument – Stonehenge – one of the seven wonders of the Medieval World, and perhaps more importantly, the image for ‘April’ in the wonders of the world personalised calendars. The famous stones spell out the name of the recipient, a real homage to anyone of any age. It is from Wiltshire that we travel to one of the more iconic images, the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This world famous landmark adorns the February image and stands proudly below the white clouds that happen to spell out the name of our gift recipient.

Africa

Egypt has long been a popular tourist destination and was the first pit-stop for the famous Philleas Fogg. Home to the Great Pyramids of Giza, these stunning structures are the pride of the Ancient wonders of the World, and of course, the spectacular choice in image for ‘May’ in the personalised calendars. With a bit of a leap south, the African continent also hosts the image for June which displays the remarkable image of the Serengeti migration – where some of Africa’s most famous inhabitants magically spell out the name of our personalised calendars recipients. Travelling further south, it won’t be long before we reach August’s ‘Victoria Falls’, the world’s largest waterfall and one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Asia

Climbing Everest is certainly not for the faint hearted, but with the wonders of the world personalised calendars, it won’t just look like our recipient has climbed the Himalaya Mountains, but that they’ve also taken a moment to carve their name into the snow and taken a stunning picture to prove it – a fitting snowy image for the Decmeber image in the personalised calendars. Unsurprisingly, Asia has much to offer in terms of stunning places to visit but it is the Great Wall of China that is celebrated on the personalised calendars and takes pride of pace as the image for March.

Australasia

Unfortunately it was considered to be a little out of the way for Mr Fogg, but he was on a rather tight deadline and as we have a whole 365 days in which to enjoy the tour, it makes sense to spend a whole month (August) in Australia, more specifically; at the Great Barrier Reef. One of the Natural wonders or the world, the planet’s largest coral reef system can be seen from space, and it is this aerial view from which our recipient will be able to make out the remarkable formation of reef that magically spells out their name.

South America

South America is diverse in terms of the landscapes it has to offer any tourist: from tropical rainforests, mountain ranges and desert plains, it probably comes as no surprise that this continent has become so widely associated with the rich and even richer. The Harbour of Rio de Janeiro is not only considered to be a millionaires’ playground, it also happens to be considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world. With the cruise liners and yachts lining up to spell out a certain someone’s name, the image for October is sure to be one of the more extraordinary pictures in this personalised calendar.

North America

North America is home to many different wonders of the world – the Hoover Dam isn’t all that bad for a massive slab of concrete; however, it is the Grand Canyon that is celebrated in these personalised calendars, quite rightly so as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Look closely at this November image and you might just see a familiar name cast in shadows against the famous red rock. For something a little more ‘man-made’ then the Empire State building might just be the answer. New York was Phileas Fogg’s last stop before returning to London, but you can be certain he didn’t have his name spelt out in fireworks across the New York – New Year sky. But there is just one more stop on our world trip before we can go home…

The North Pole

Perhaps the most magical of all the wonders of the world, not to mention the stunning image for September in the personalised calendars, the Northern Lights make for a perfect last stop. These ‘Auroras’ as they are formally known, are only visible near the magnetic poles, and are typically seen from parts of Western Canada, Greenland and Scotland but can also be found in the southern hemisphere areas of Antarctica, South America and Australasia. Look closely and you’ll see a familiar name twinkle in the stars in what should be the final stop of this 365 day trip around the world.

Consider a Holiday in a Place Less Travelled?

November 3rd, 2009

There’s constant talk about the world’s best beaches, most famous cities and number one destinations to travel to, but I got to thinking, what about all the remarkable pristine gems of the world which is just as spectacular as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or a Safari in Africa. Why is that when planning a holiday we always travel to the typical holiday destinations without even considering unique landscapes of the world?

Majority of Australians are willing to fly 10 hours or more to another country, yet haven’t even planned to explore our very own backyard. Australia has always been famous for its beaches; sure Bondi beach in Sydney is beautiful but can turn unpleasant when you find yourself in a maze of over-tanned people from just the sea to your towel. It’s time to explore the divine coast of Australia such as Bakers Beach in Tasmania just an hours drive from Launceston, Bremer Island which is nestled off the coast in Northern Territory, and one of Australia’s best kept secrets is Spring Beach in QLD, but there’s so much more to this little country we call home, if only we took the time to really get to know it.

Antarctica is one of the most amazing and inimitable places on the planet, yet most of us wouldn’t even think of a holiday there until we’re engrossed in the discovery channel of Polar Bears.  Antarctica allows you to follow in the footsteps of great explorers and discover the magical sights over the Antarctic Peninsula, a picturesque moment where the icy waters flirt with the mirrored glaciers. It’s unique wildlife creates a surreal world of its own with enchanting scenes of humpback whales surfacing, King Penguins families frolicking through the snow, seals just hanging around and other animals playing in the icy depths while the crystal ice-carvings curtain as a backdrop.

If you have to choose only one rainforest in the world to visit, then it has to be the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon is the largest rainforest which crosses over 8 South American countries and is also known as the “Lungs of our Planet” providing about 20% of earth’s oxygen. This astonishing jungle provides not only great views, but a captivating culture which is a once in a lifetime experience.

Europe is another hot spot but there are still so many places which are less travelled.   Travel to Malta for one of the best climates in the world with an exotic adventure overlooking stunning landscapes. Or for a small town charm with magnificent views of the Alps travel to Slovenia. Play hide-and-seek with the legendary Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, or sing the sound of Music in Austria.

Don’t limit yourself to a small selection when the whole world is in your hands, just choose the right destination.

Travel to Europe’s Magnificent Capital Cities by Train

August 6th, 2009

Boasting approximately 50 countries to discover and offering up a diverse selection of cultures and landscapes, Europe is filled with a number of remarkable cities and stunning stretches of wilderness. Cited as the birthplace of western culture, it forms one of the seven continents of the world and is surrounded by the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, and the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

Due to its close proximity to the UK, Europe is an ideal travel destination for those looking to escape on a short break. Indeed, offering up a number of different locations, all sited within a few hours of Britain, there’s a wealth of exciting cities and environments to explore.

With so much to choose from, though, it can be hard work figuring out which part of Europe to head to. However, offering up some of the best cultural treats in the world, as well as a superb range of iconic landmarks and sights of interest, the major capital cities are a great starting point.

The world’s top tourist destination, Paris is a definite must-see. Home to a huge array of cultural attractions like the Louvre and Eiffel Tower, the French capital also offers up a packed annual events programme. Due to its unique charm and famous sights, over 30 million people flock there each year.

Amsterdam, on the other hand, is ideal for those looking to take some time out and escape from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. Filled with a jumble of canals, parks and quirky architecture, there’s a lot to discover in this historical capital city. The Museum Square is the site of Amsterdam’s most influential museums and, as such, is well worth visiting.

When you go to book your trip to Europe, whether it be to one of its lively capital cities or a more remote part of the countryside, there are a number of travel options to chose from such as flying, driving, or taking the ferry. However, because of the advantages to be had, it can often be a good idea to travel by train.

In fact, eliminating the need for having to make stressful travel arrangements, the train can help you to maximise your holiday time. For example, you can choose to travel by day, where you’ll get the opportunity to soak up the stunning scenery as you journey throughout Europe, or at night, where you can sleep in comfort and arrive at your destination fully-refreshed.

Not only that, but with a lot of the trains reaching speeds of up to 186 mph, you can reach many parts of the continent within a few hours of leaving the UK.

Owing to the many enticing Europe travel deals on offer, millions of people head there every year. There’s a wealth of cultures and landscapes to explore and with accessible travel options like the train to choose from, everyone has the opportunity to discover all that’s on offer, regardless of whether they’re looking for a luxury or budget holiday.
